All of our tutors are experienced teachers at highly regarded, competitive schools, who have taught their subjects extensively and have received excellent student evaluations throughout their careers.

A few things to know

AP Chemistry is designed as an equivalent course to first year college chemistry. While not for the faint of heart, the course is excellent preparation for those who want to major in a biological or physical science. It is much more quantitative than the general chemistry course, which is a prerequisite.

Topics covered will include:

  • Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion (VSEPR)
  • Electron Orbital Configuration
  • Periodic Table Trends and their relation to atomic structure
  • Introduction to quantum mechanics
  • Intermolecular forces
  • Kinetics and Equilibrium

Problem areas that frequently arise

Students often encounter problems with buffer systems, quantum mechanical models of the atom, and electron configurations. Quantum mechanics in particular can prove particularly difficult as a real understanding of the topic requires much more math and physics than a student will have had at this stage.

Don’t get stuck!

This course jumps around a bit, but much of what you learn at the beginning of a 6 week subsection builds sequentially as you go on. Get help before you get lost! Our file sharing, interactive video and whiteboard will allow you to work with a teacher who sees the exact problem areas you are encountering.
