All of our tutors are experienced teachers at highly regarded, competitive schools, who have taught their subjects extensively and have received excellent student evaluations throughout their careers.
Preparation for SAT Subject Tests begins after mock exam to evaluate areas of weakness. Focus of prep includes test-specific study skills as well as a comprehensive review of subjects the student either has not learned or has struggled to grasp. Figuring out what the course has covered relative to what the test will cover is always a major goal, and we are always happy to talk with the student’s teacher to determine what if any gaps exist.
Who should take this test?
As with the Subject Tests in Biology and Chemistry, the difficulty in the SAT Subject Test in Physics lies in the breadth, rather than the depth, of the material tested. So do not be intimidated if you think this is only for the kids able to understand the most complex problems. If your basic physics course covers Newton’s Laws and kinematics through electricity and magnetism, waves and modern physics, then this test is a definite option. Of course, these subjects often lend themselves to honors and AP® classes. And YOU guys should definitely sign up!
What subjects are most likely to appear?
The heaviest emphasis is probably on kinematics, Newton’s Laws and momentum, as well it should be: you cannot understand material later in the year if your understanding of these subject is not strong. The really great thing about physics though is it is probably the most coachable of the sciences and one can really make great strides by working through problems under the guidance of someone checking each step. For example a huge aspect of problem solving is including the appropriate units as you work through the problems, and getting into habits such as these, even if towards the end of the year, can help your score immensely.
How can we help you?
You will feel much more comfortable with the test after learning some essential techniques, reviewing the material you are maybe a little less familiar with, and taking a series of mock exams, under the guidance of one of our tutors.
