SAT® Math Level 1 Subject TestTM
All of our tutors are experienced teachers at highly regarded, competitive schools, who have taught their subjects extensively and have received excellent student evaluations throughout their careers.
Preparation for SAT Subject Tests begins after mock exam to evaluate areas of weakness. Focus of prep includes test-specific study skills as well as a comprehensive review of subjects the student either has not learned or has struggled to grasp. Figuring out what the course has covered relative to what the test will cover is always a major goal, and we are always happy to talk with the student’s teacher to determine what if any gaps exist.
Who should take this test?
The College Board recommends that students should have already taken at least three years’ worth of high school math, two years of algebra and one year of geometry, as preparation for the Math I test. Also, before you spend time prepping up, check with the colleges you are applying to regarding their preference for Math 1 or Math 2
Some background
Calculators are allowed though you will need one for only about half of the questions. You can bring a graphing/scientific calculator, on which you have stored formulas, and you can use those formulas on your test.
What subjects are most likely to appear?
Number and operations, algebra and functions, Geometry and measurement (plane Euclidean, coordinate, three-dimensional and trigonometry), Data analysis, statistics and probability
We have heard that the curve on this test is brutal. Is that true?
Yes, but so what?
How can we help you?
Certain strategies are applicable across the board to all SAT Subject tests, and include guessing strategies, backsolving and substitution strategies, curves and order of difficulty. First, we will make sure those are solid. Then, we will have you tell us what areas of the material you feel weakest in. Because we as math teachers teach this material in our classes every day, we are sure to have some insight to help you. Remember, none of the strategies will help you if your math skills are weak!
